Live translation inside Google Meet
For the prayer meeting, small group, board meeting or service your church holds on Google Meet: whoever speaks, everyone hears it in their own language — many languages at once, in the same call.
How it works
Open ChurchTranslator from Meet's Activities and press Translate this meeting. After a one-time sign-in, a small ChurchTranslator window opens on your computer and listens to your microphone and the Meet tab — so a speaker who joins from home is translated too. Press Invite everyone: each participant opens the ChurchTranslator panel, picks a language and presses Listen. A shared caption view can fill the meeting's main stage, each person reading in their own language.
People on phones or not signed in to Google use your church's listener link instead — the panel shows its QR code. Same languages, same voice.
Getting the add-on
The ChurchTranslator add-on for Google Meet is waiting for Google's Marketplace review. To try it early, email help@churchtranslator.ai. Meanwhile any Meet can be translated with the capture window from your dashboard (step 3) and your listener link.
- Have a ChurchTranslator account for your church (start here — a few minutes).
- In the meeting, open Activities → ChurchTranslator and press Translate this meeting. Sign in with your church account once; the meeting stays linked to your church, and a recurring meeting keeps its link every week.
- In the capture window, press Start streaming and pick the Google Meet tab with Also share tab audio on. Use Chrome on a computer, and headphones if you share both your microphone and the meeting.
- Press Invite everyone. Keep the capture window open while the meeting runs — closing it stops the translation.
What the add-on accesses
- The meeting code (like abc-defg-hij) — to find which church the meeting belongs to. A church's staff link a code once; we keep the link until they remove it from the dashboard.
- No Google account data in the meeting. The add-on calls no Google APIs: it doesn't read your name, email, contacts, calendar or the meeting's participants, and it can't hear the meeting.
- Audio only from the capture window, and only after the host presses Start and chooses what to share in Chrome's own prompt.
- The language each person picks is kept in their own browser.
Verify host (optional)
Everyone in a linked meeting sees who connected it to the church: its organizer, or the church's staff. On the dashboard's Streaming, Zoom & Meet page, a staff member who organizes the meeting can press Verify host. Google then asks them to sign in and to let ChurchTranslator see their Google Meet meetings — the only Google permission ChurchTranslator ever asks for. We use it once, to ask Google one question: did this account organize this meeting? The meeting then shows "connected by this meeting's organizer".
Nothing else is read — not your other meetings, participants, recordings, transcripts, chat or calendar, and not your name or email. Google's access is handed back right after the check and never stored; we keep only the answer, until the meeting is removed from the dashboard. ChurchTranslator's use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Audio is processed live and is not retained after the meeting, unless your church turns on Service Replay; then each meeting is deleted 24 hours after it ends. Details in our privacy policy.
Removing it
Uninstall ChurchTranslator from Google Meet (Activities → ChurchTranslator → ⋮ → Uninstall, or Google Workspace Marketplace → Manage apps). Remove a meeting's link to your church on the dashboard's Streaming, Zoom & Meet page.
