How much does church translation cost in 2026?

Translation can cost a church nothing but a volunteer's Sunday, or tens of thousands of dollars a year. Here is what each option really costs in 2026, with published prices, and three worked budgets you can adapt to your own church.

Volunteer interpreters

The labor is free; the equipment is not. Guests listen on receivers, and each language needs its own transmitter channel. Published dealer prices in October 2026:

  • A one-language starter system with a transmitter, microphone and ten receivers: about $1,085.
  • A professional system with a transmitter and four receivers: about $3,065.
  • Each extra receiver: about $210.

The real cost is people. A sermon is long, interpreting is exhausting, and the same one or two bilingual members end up serving every week. Plan for at least two volunteers per language so one can rest, and a backup for the Sundays they are away.

AI translation

AI services usually charge a monthly subscription. Watch how they count: some bill each language separately, so three languages use your hours three times as fast; some cap the number of listeners. ChurchTranslator.AI bills by service hour, the time from Start to Stop, counted once however many languages are live, with no listener limit. Our plans:

ChurchTranslator.AI plans
PlanPer monthIncludes
Starter$396 service hours + 2 translated languages
Growth$8912 service hours + 4 translated languages
Pro$19930 service hours + 6 translated languages
VIP$49930 service hours + every language

Past the plan's hours, each extra service hour is $4.50, and a live service is never cut off. Listeners use their own phones and earbuds, so there is nothing to buy for them. The booth needs a computer and an audio feed from the sound desk. The first 4 hours are free. Full details are on the pricing page.

Three worked budgets

Three typical churches, all with their services on Sunday. For the headset option we assume one ten-receiver system per language. For paid interpreters we assume one half-day booking per language per week at the federal court rate, as if every service fits into one morning, so treat that row as a floor.

Costs people forget

  • Volunteer time: recruiting, training and scheduling interpreters, every week.
  • Receivers: charging, cleaning, replacing the ones that walk out the door.
  • Wi-Fi: if guests listen on their phones, the sanctuary needs coverage that holds up on a full Sunday.
  • A clean audio feed: a line or USB output from the sound desk, not a microphone near a speaker.
  • Earbuds: some churches keep a box of inexpensive ones at the welcome desk.
  • Your livestream: if online viewers need captions too, check that your option can send them to your stream.
